Hearing Aid Assessment

The audiogram or pure tone hearing test is the basis of your hearing examination. The audiogram shows us how your hearing deviates from what is considered normal hearing but does not give us any information with regard to how the loss is affecting you.

In order to test for the effect of the loss we must assess various levels of conversation through speech discrimination tests. Word lists or sentence are presented at various levels of voice representing normal conversational speech and give us an impression of how well you can understand with regard to social adequacy. In addition to speech understanding in quiet your abilities to understand in background noise may be assessed. From this we can predict your need for hearing aid use and the likelihood of a successful outcome.
